ABOUT THE SHOW
Jem is an American animated musical television series that ran from 1985 to 1988. The show centers around Jerrica Benton, the owner and manager of Starlight Music and her secret identity, Jem, lead singer of the rock band, Jem and The Holograms. Jerrica adopts the persona of Jem with the help of a holographic computer, known as Synergy, which was built by Jerrica's father and was bequeathed to her after his death.
Jerrica communicates with Synergy through special earrings to assume the Jem holographic identity. Along with her sister, Kimber, and other Hologram band members, Jem pursues band-related adventures, often with mischievous interference by their rival band, The Misfits.
Always choosing the high road and making pragmatic decisions in tough situations, instead of the quick and easy route to success, Jem and the Holograms always prevail. With Eric Raymond (The Misfits’ manager), Rio (Jerrica/Jem’s love interest), and a delightful cast of supporting characters, Jem proved to be a bright spot in the Saturday morning cartoon experience for a diverse population of children.
